36 hrs Prolonged Fast
Have you ever wondered why it is so hard to wake up in the morning?
Or why you bones and joints ache?
Maybe your like me and noticed early in life or maybe it was later in your life…
By age 24 I saw that my health was in rapid decline.
Knowing I needed to make changes I began reading as many books as I could find about wellness.
Somewhere down the line I learned about prolonged fasting.
Which is typically fasting (with liquids) for over 36 hrs.
I have fasted for 5 days…and that was an experience I will remember!
DO NOT fast that long without proper research and guidance from your health provider of choice.
One thing I learned is food is highly overrated.
Needed - totally, and also overrated.
I have only done a five day fast one time.
A 36 hour fast is less invasive and more doable for my body and lifestyle.
Someday I’d like to go live with munks and follow their fasting regimen.
That would be so fun! What an experience…but I digress.
Finding a flow in your own life is key.
I will focus on the 36 hr fast because that’s where I’ve noticed best results.
Why 36 hour fast?
One of the reasons I love prolonged fasts is because of the cleansing opportunity it brings.
Like I said above, fasting for extended amount of time is done with fluids.
Such as:
Electrolytes
Bone broth
Teas
Rasa
Water
Fresh veggie/fruit juices
These fluids assist the body in mending and repairing.
Did you know that the digestive system takes a crap ton of energy to run itself??
Did you also know that when your stressed, your digestive system doesn’t function at it’s full capacity?
Why this is important to us…
When our gut is running sub-par, it cannot properly eliminate toxins.
If toxins build up beyond the bodies ability to cleanse, this creates Dis-ease.
Dis-ease create discomfort and majority of the world has been led to believe this is “normal”.
While it is common to have toxins, dis-ease and discomfort do not need to be common.
I’ve come to accept we live in a world of toxic overload.
There is no perfect way to live that will keep toxins out of our bodies.
Toxins. Are. Inevitable. (just like Thanos)
That being said…we can choose higher quality options that help lessen the toxic load - 100%
I love to fast for 36 hours because that is where the body can take a break from working so hard on digesting food.
When my body takes a break, it utilizes all that energy to clean up!
It really is a brilliant system.
Reminder- This isn’t restriction! It’s all about detoxing.
So rather than beginning a fast with a negative attitude and making your body believe its dooms day…
Give your mind the positive idea that this fast will be the same as hiring a maid to GET WORK DONE.
The cost is giving up food, but only for one full day. Not forever.
Autophagy, which is your body’s process of reusing old and damaged cell parts, kicks in between 24-48 hrs.
Why you want those old cell parts used?
Comes back to a clean house.
Dirty dishes left in the sink for months or even years…need I say more? Gross.
Causes problems for many reasons.
Same with the cells in our bodies.
Without a regular system to cleanse, oxidative stress increases.
Oxidative stress damages the cells.
This causes premature aging, dis-ease and chronic pain.
Well cool, but how do I do it?
My favorite time to do a 36 hour fast is Sunday evening - but you do whatever works with your schedule.
And again…I’m not a doctor, so check with yours.
Everyone’s body is different and needs different things.
*I personally wouldn’t check in with one about fasting because I’m stubborn and lack the trust of doctors from years of poor experience but you do you ;)
So I begin Sunday evening between 6-8 PM, and go till Tuesday morning 6 AM.
Great part is, your sleeping for two big chunks of time during this fast!
On Monday, I do my best to move my body.
I exercise as I normally would and trust that my body knows what it’s doing.
If I need to slow down and rest, I listen to my body and rest.
The benefit of moving is it pumps the lymphatic system and therefore more detoxing.
Even a light walk is amazing!!
Learn to listen to your body.
Do what is best for YOU.
Be ready to tweak and adjust ideas to fit what your body needs.
You will love the results you will create by consistently making small, simple changes in your life.
xoxo,
