Homemade Chocolate Milk
My kids love treats.
Just like every mom reading this; I want a healthy balance when it comes to food for my kids.
Oh how I wished we lived in the mountains far far away from the S.A.D. (standard American diet) but that just isn’t the case. So I compromise.
I’ve done extremes in the past…no sugar, no treats…and for my family it created more damage than good.
How I approach it now is with understanding that treats have a place in life.
And with moderation they can be very good for the body and soul.
Is there a difference between store bought and homemade?
Yes. 100%.
While comparing the nutritional value and ingredients between the two, I saw just how drastic that difference is.
When its from your kitchen you know exactly what’s in it. You get to have complete knowledge.
So while it is still a treat, it is the best version and more often than not more satisfying.
Our homemade raw chocolate milk is so delicious.
AND it’s so easy my daughter makes it by herself!
Raw Chocolate Milk Recipe:
1/2 gallon raw milk
1/4 cup Cacao - I prefer this over cocoa!
1 cup sugar or 1/2 c honey
1/2 cup warm water
Directions for sugar recipe:
Mix cacao + sugar.
Add water. Whisk well so there is no lumps.
Pour out 1 cup milk and set aside (add back in after you’ve drank a couple glasses of choc. milk!)
Combine chocolate syrup with raw milk and shake well.
Enjoy!
Directions for honey recipe:
In separate pan heat water and honey just until mixed. This will be barely warm, around 80 degrees.
Add cacao to the honey water. Whisk well.
Pour out 1 cup milk and set aside (add back in after you’ve drank a couple glasses of choc. milk!)
Combine chocolate syrup with raw milk and shake well.
Enjoy!
We have enjoyed both versions!! When the kids are feeling adventurous they even add cinnamon. I like it without but its fun for them to create their own style. :) I personally prefer the honey version but I also love honey so that’s that!
