Is it actually what we think?
Have you ever been told “no dairy”, “no gluten”, “no __________” the list goes on and on.
I know I have heard this no-no list by practitioners of every variety. Ranging from western to alternative medicine.
The assaults come from every angle and you are shamed if you admit to drinking milk or grabbing toast during breakfast.
"Was it gluten free??” Or my favorite… “It better be plant based milk!”
When I assess the foods I eat I look for these three things:
#1 - It is a food that has been around for more than a century.
#2 - The said food is REAL.
#3 - It has NOT been processed in a factory.
These are very simple to check off prior to purchasing anything.
Now what does this have to do with the battle I mentioned above?
Because. When someone tells me, only eat gluten free bread I think about all the benefits of bread as a whole - especially and most importantly when that bread is fermented (aka sourdough).
Same with dairy.
Milk on the shelf can be ultra pasteurized at temperatures of 280 degrees.
Now this definitely kills all bacteria and viruses. And your left with nothing your gut recognizes as food.
So when anyone tells me “no-no’s” in food I say well what kind are you referring to because they are not all created equally.
Homemade sourdough has so many variations.
Raw milk and raw dairy products from local clean farms are night and day different than big chain grocery store products.
And what exactly is in all those nut milks on the shelf at a store?
The key to it all is to be willing to look at what has lasted through time.
We are what we eat. So if our product is void of nutrients, so is our amazing bodies.
Do the best you can to search out nutrient dense foods.
And it may be that you truly are having reactions to foods.
I just can see a trend with gluten free and dairy free. Big marketing knows how to make us feel safe. To think they have our best interest at heart.
Possibly began that way. I say this because I have felt the difference in the past 8 years eating whole foods.
Study how healing your gut is about bringing in more LIVE foods…not avoiding a food category.
I have loved learning what my own individual body tells me.
This is a touchy topic, I see that. I will be delving more deeply into why I feel so strongly about understanding the foods we eat and the trends set by Big Corporations.
