Making the Switch from Soda
Booch is another pet name for Kombucha.
When you enter the world of kombucha…there’s no going back.
Okay it’s not that dramatic, but I will say I absolutely love this drink!!
Growing up the youngest of 10, my parents did the best with the income they had.
Money was tight and food was bought to feed the masses.
One thing I knew was store bought treats were rare.
If we had sweet snacks, they were homemade.
Not a bad thing in my opinion…
Even more rare was soda (or pop as I called it growing up in Michigan)
I’ll be honest…soda ain’t my cup o’ tea.
I was more of a gummy bear, ice cream or sugar cereal kinda person/kid.
There are 3 - R’s to help overcome food addictions!
Remove, Rethink, Replace.
Today I’m focusing on Kombucha/Soda ;) -Literally this format is what helped me change my life.
REMOVE.
This is pretty self explanatory.
Remove the soda.
Actually remove it from the pantry.
Throw it away, give it away, donate it…
If you have a spouse/partner/roommate tell them what your wanting to do and why.
Support is huge!
Even if they choose to drink soda still…ask them to keep it out of your sight for the first month or so.
No joke, they get to be closet drinkers for a bit. lol
It’s cool because as soon as they see your results and your courage to change, often they will follow suit.
RETHINK.
This one is all brain work.
Our words can Make or Break us.
I’ll start with an example of how I ‘rethink’ my words to better help myself.
“I can’t ever have another _________ (insert soda of choice) ever again.”
——> Verses <——-
“I’m going to pause drinking soda for three weeks and see how I feel.”
This dialog gives your subconscious permission to calm the crap down.
“Can’t Ever” is very restrictive.
Your brain instantly goes into, “WHY IS THE RUM GONE!”
Verses -
“I’m going to PAUSE” is neutral.
With that neutrality you are able to breath and make conscious decisions.
Conscious decisions?
It means you are fully aware of the choices your making.
Soda, cookies, treats…it’s easy to get into habits where you drink/eat without thought.
It’s on the table and you grab and drink.
Plate of cookies; doesn’t matter that your stuffed - you automatically eat some.
When you Rethink, you get to be in the drivers seat and decide to drink the soda or reach for a better choice.
REPLACE.
I choose wholefoods to replace food/drink dependency.
Homemade Kombucha is full of probiotics, antioxidants and vitamins and minerals.
It tastes delightful!
With it’s bubbly fizzy zing, you are still getting that carbonation you love.
I also would highly recommend homemade teas. (careful with any caffeinated tea, it does a number on the liver)
Whatever your choice is, it is very soothing to the brain to have something in place of your old habit.
Your subconscious’ main job is to keep you alive.
That soda has been apart of your routine for how long?
When you rock the boat of ‘what has been’ the brain alerts that this change could kill you!!!
Lol - not kidding.
Ever seen the movie the Crudes?
“Anything different is BAD!” “NEVER NOT BE AFRAID!” haha
That’s pretty much our survival brain.
So because your changing the routine, the subconscious part of the brain is going crazy.
If you can do the steps…then it calms it all down.
I love making my own drinks.
I know exactly what’s in it!!!
When I make it from home, the whole family is included.
My 9 year old helps me make it because she loves it so much.
Our family of seven goes through 2 gallons at a time each week…it totals out to being $5.
I love that my whole family enjoys drinking it.
And its super cost effective because I make it myself.
I also find great comfort in teaching my kids that our ‘booch is our soda.
Don’t try to trick them into thinking it IS soda…lol that never ends well hahahaha
When you make these life changes you will feel a difference in yourself.
The body craves real foods…but we have to give it a break from the not real foods.
No matter where you choose to start; know that you are doing amazing.
Keep on keepin’ on!!!
